    Austin Jackson to the Giants

Post by Deplorable Mark on Tue Jan 23, 2018 11:34 am

I wonder if this means that they gave up on Lorenzo Cain

BTW, didn't the Giants lost the most game in the majors last year.

Hillarious how some here think we should view the rebuild thru the eyes of the Cubs and Astros, and avoid a quality player like Lorenzo Cain.  Then they claim that Cain makes perfect sense for the Giants, while they completely ignore all of baseball history and the high improbability of going from worst to first.

3 year $54million with an option should land Cain.  And with a little luck, the lineup of the future will be 90% in place come 2019

If the Sox were rebuilding like the Cubs they would have gone after both Cain and Jackson.

Giants still have a nucleus of vets (Bumgarner, Posey, Cueto, Crawford,  etc) they want to make one last hurrah with.  Plus a huge and loyal fanbase and an owner willing to spend. Whether it's smart for them to play win-now again is another matter.  But they were a playoff team in 2016 and had injuries and underperformances in 2017.
Despite their 2017 record, Giants' situation is different than the Sox's who traded their top players over the last year and are rebuilding with young prospects.  Apples and oranges.
