    Yolmer rumored to the Brewers

    Saw this on Bleacher Report.

although it reads more like a suggestion than a rumor.

For the most part, the White Sox have the pieces to build a contender.  What they need to do now is fashion the pieces into a coherent lineup.  The ability to field needs to be part of the equation.  It's the KARK's not so humble opinion that building a lineup of sluggers that get by at their positions will sabotage the intended goal.  You need a couple spots in the lineup for guys that truly excel with the glove.  Yolmer Sanchez is one of those guys.

It would be a crying shame if the White Sox don't recognize the value of this hidden gem

On one hand, it's easy to say Sox are all set with their 2020-2021 IF-OF lineup (Moncada, Anderson, Berger, Jiminez, Robert, Garcia or Rutherford) and there is no room for Sanchez.  But IMO, Moncada, Jiminez, and Robert are the three who look like studs and the rest have question marks.

Plus, none of these guys are pluses with the glove (and some are minuses ) and Sox may need Sanchez's glove as a an anchor at one of those key IF spots.  Of course, Sanchez has to be hit enough to be a consistent 2-3 WAR player.. Only way to find
out is giving him AB's in 2018 and that may be a problem if 3b is only spot he can get those AB's.

The bottom line, it appears the White Sox would rather see Matt Davidson hit 40 HR than watch Yolmer Sanchez win a gold glove at 2B

Speaking of Jiminez, with all the athletic talent the White Sox org has in the outfield, I see Jiminez spending a lot of time at DH once the White Sox rebuilding project reaches maturity.  I would hope that this mature team has a gold glove caliber CF.  If they do, then they should be able to field an OF that has an average or better at each 3 OF spots.  Then put Yolmer at 2B and pray that Moncada and Anderson can translate their obvious physical talents in the glove.  Now you have a defense worthy of a contender.

Sox may think that with more reps at 3b and more experience seeing pitchers Davidson might improve his defense and offense enough to justify his job there.  Where Sanchez and his low-mid 700's OPS is behind the 8-ball offensively at 3b and not close enough to Moncada offensively at 2b to justify his glove difference.  So despite the fact that only 2 other Sox players had a better WAR than Sanchez this year, he appears to be a man without a job in 2018 unless the Sox use Davidson primarily at DH and Sanchez at 3b.   Not a great solution either.

Gee, I wonder if OUR White Sox realize that not only did Yolmer have the higher OPS in 2017, but is also 15 months younger

Not only did Sanchez top Davidson in OPS with Sox this year (although only by 21 pts) but over the three years they were both in Charlotte (2014-2016), Sanchez's OPS averaged 763 to Davidson's 686.   Which is all the more significant given that Sanchez put up those #'s at a younger age.
