Should the White Sox go after Yu Darvish

Post by Deplorable Mark on Tue Nov 14, 2017 1:41 pm

I assume OUR White Sox will be looking to sign at least one veteran starter.

Read an article somewhere that argued OUR White Sox should pursue Darvish so they will already have an Ace in case the rebuild goes a t tad quicker than expected.

The KARK doesn't trust starting pitchers to stay healthy.  Especially the one that sign big contracts with another team.

Looks like another winter of explaining why Doug Fister is better than Mike Pelfrey.

Personally, the KARK starts saving now for the pending 2020 free agency of Chris Sale

As a Dodger fan who saw Yu Darvish choke away the Dodgers' potential world championship this year, this guy is not worth the $ 20-25 million per he will be demanding.  And he's no iron horse innings eater either.  In the six years since he signed on with Rangers, he's only managed to pitch 180 + IP only three times.   PASS, PASS, PASS on this brittle choker....

Sox should get whatever mileage possible from Shields even if his arm falls off in the process.  He will give the young Sox defensive players all the work they can handle.
There are a good number of guys in the Fister camp who are probably looking at 1 year deals, including Fister himself.  (Jesse Chavez, Scott Feldman, Jeremy Hellickson, Matt Garza, Clay Buchholz, Chris Tillman plus former Sox starters Hector Santiago, Miguel Gonzalez).  Throwing $ 3-6 million at one of these guys to try to eat 175 innings would be OK to spare younger arms (Kopech, Hanson, Dunning, etc) from having to come up too soon.

Agree with Roger on using and abusing Shields.  Maybe by some miracle his newfound delivery materializes into something that's useful and effective enough that some sad-sack team would give us a pack of hot dogs or used baseballs to get rid of him.
