    Blake Rutherford

Post by Guest on Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:23 am

According to Baseball America, OUR White Sox are sky high on this 20 year old.  After Eloy Jiminez, Rutherford is considered the 2nd best prospect that was traded this summer.  Gee, I wonder what all these scouts are seeing?!?!?  Apparently they are looking at something more than just a number line at Fangraphs.

Will Rutherford-Robert-Jiminez be the new Willy, Mickey and the Duke?  Its a definite possiblity given how highly they are rated.  But then, its also possible they will abandon their inner child, quit having fun and turn into Gordon Beckham.  Only time will tell.  But to write off a 6'3" 20 year old kid that has yet to fill out because he doesn't have a ton of homers to go with his 290 BA is just plain retarded

I talk Buehrle out of retirement to be a mentor to all the kid pitchers.

If he is too busy hunting, I believe John Danks and Gavin Floyd are available.  They can share the closer role

Again with the distorting of my point.  Never "wrote off" Rutherford. Just said he'll need to develop more power than he's shown so far to be worthwhile.  Sure, he has time to do it but at some point it has to come.   But why mention this kid in the same breath with Hall of Famers when he's yet to show a great deal so far ?  Two years from now, we'll know better.
This is the RATIONAL analysis of Rutherford:
<There’s not much non-Yankees overlap of scouts who saw Rutherford have success in high school in Southern California and have also seen him struggle in his first pro season in South Carolina, so it’s hard to find a single person with proper context to try to decipher what’s going on. Scouts who have seen him as a pro have seen a player with good barrel feel, but who is either very heavily prioritizing opposite field contact or just unable to turn on pitches because of swing length and/or weakness in his hands.
While it’s certainly not good that Rutherford is having trouble hitting for power, it’s not his career’s death rattle. It could just be a developmental hiccup, something the White Sox can identify and solve with coaching. If it persists, it’s damning, but for now it’s just something to continue to monitor.>

Only because you make it so easy with know it all attitude and here are the stats to prove it

Again, you are the master of the obvious.  but the kid is only 20 and he a doubles machine this year, 23 in 319AB.  what do they say about doubles turning into homers.  maybe you should stop drawing such harsh conclusions on small sample sizes

Because its fun.  Try growing a sense of humor

And why is it so rational?!?!?  Because it matches your gloom and doom nonsense?

In 1987, David Justice at AA batted 227 with an ISO barely over 100.  He recovered nicely.  BTW, 2016 Rutherford had a 570 SLG with a 219ISO.  So again it seems to me you just go cherry picking for stats that allow you to play the contrarian.  You really should talk to somebody about this

THIS ALSO IS A RATIONAL ANALYSIS OF RUTHERFORD:

While he currently employs a line-drive approach, he has big raw power and will tap into it once he adds some loft to his swing.

    WHICH MAKES TONS OF SENSES.

Rutherford has 23 doubles and just 2 homers.  23 doubles are quite excessive for just 319 AB.  Its safe to assume that as he matures, about 1/3 of those will fly over the fence.  Adjust Rutherford's stats for a more normal looking 15 2B and 10 HR his ISO becomes 154.  Hardly a cause for concern.

Anything less than crazy, wild optimism is "gloom and doom" to you.  The report on Rutherford had nothing to do with stats, it was the scouts looking at his swing. Scouts are split on whether he'll make a good OFer in majors or not.  No one is saying he's a bust, for God's sake.  Just that he has to up the power in the years ahead.  Whereas a guy like Jiminez has already shown that power at the same age.
Sox's strategy is to accumulate as many prospects as possible and some will make it and some won't.  In fact some of the ones that will make it may not be the ones most highly touted right now.
