    Other Guys

Post by rmapasad on Wed Feb 08, 2017 7:21 pm

With all the hub-bub over the Catcher's spot, Sox have taken some flyers on guys this past month or so that ordinarily wouldn't
get any attention but now that auditions will be the order of the day in 2017, some of these guys are in the mix for at least reliever
    roles.

Cory Luebke who's had 2 TJ surgeries in last 5 years, derailing what once looked to be a promising career as a LH starter.
Now he's a reliever, so it remains to be seen whether he can make it back. Minor league deal, so no harm in trying.

Anthony Swarzak could eat some needed innings in the bullpen to save more valuable arms from wear and tear.  He developed a
gopher ball problem in 2016 but his other peripherals looked OK.

MAykoe Guaipe, age 26, a slinger who needs to find the strike zone more consistently was picked up for a song.  Again, he
will be trying to make it in ST and could probably pass through waivers if he doesn't and get sent to AAA again as depth.

Another longshot coming off injuries that might be worth a flyer is 27 yr old Henderson Alvarez who had a 2.63 ERA as starter for
Marlins his last full season in 2014..  Last but not least I still think Nate Eovoldi, who will sit out 2017 rehabbing, is at his cheapest
right now and $ 1 mil for 2017 plus a $ 2 mil option and $ 500 K buyout if he doesn't cut it in 2018 Spring Training could be
a reasonable flyer for the Sox to take on a guy that has had electric stuff.

TJ surgery has not been the kiss of death anymore as something like 50-60 % regain their past velocities.. Again these are names
that Sox wouldn't touch in years past trying to contend.  But now is the time to test these guys out.

WHO SAID THE CATCHER HUB HUB IS OVER?!?!?!?!?!?!

DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT FRIDAY IS?!?!?!?!?!

    *******************************************

ANYWAY, LET THE KARK HELP YOU SET UP THE DISCUSSION.

IF THE SEASON STARTED TODAY, HERE IS YOUR 11 MAN STAFF

    S1 - Quintana
    S2 - Rodon
    S3 - Gonzalez
    S4 - Holland
    S5 - Shields
    R6 - Soto
    R5 - Petricka
    R4 - Jennings
    R3 - Putnam
    R2 - Jones
    R1 - Robertson

The 12th pitcher, a concept I hate, would be Michael Ynoa

I would think everybody except Soto and Petricka are locks to make the club.  Plus its still possible Quintana and/or Robertson are traded b4 Opening Day.  Then there is the KARK fantasy of trading Jones to the Jays...

One person Roger left off is Bryan Clark.  White Sox have only one for certain lefty reliever.  And lefty reliever having a good spring should be able to force himself onto the team.

Any of the other flyers probably need a trade or injury to open up a spot
