    Nada at the Deadline

Post by rmapasad on Mon Aug 01, 2016 7:01 pm

Despite the tremendous flurry of activity at the deadline, the Sox were remarkably quiet except for a minor deal to trade Zach Duke.  Surprised they didn't move Frazier, who is arb eligible next year and doesn't become a free agent until after 2017.  Astros, Mets, Giants and Cardinals could all have used him and had prospects to give.   Sure they tried to trade Robertson but the $ 25 million he's still owed undoubtedly was a sticking point.   Ditto the $ 14 million owed to Melky Cabrera.   Modest power, poor defense guy that wasn't all that appealing to other teams.   Obviously Abreu drew very little attention as most contenders have decent 1bmen/DH.  Although here again, the Mets should have been interested.  In fact, both Frazier and Abreu filled immediate needs much more than the guy they got (Jay Bruce) who actually creates a logjam in their outfield.
Obviously the real prizes (Sale and Quintana) didn't go anywhere as the Sox's asking price was too high.   They might have gotten Texas or the Dodgers to bite and they both had the prospects but Sox apparently weren't willing to bite.

Look on the bright side. The Sox weren't buyers either.

Sox are now the Bill Wirtz-Bob Pulford Blackhawks.

If the Sox finish like they started, that's enough for a wildcard

Might even be enough for a tight division

    Tonight the Tilson era begins
