    $1 billion dollars.  Retractable Roof.

Taxpayers will vote on extending the current tax used to pay for some of the Cowboys Stadium in the November election in Arlington.

Taxpayers could be on the hook for 1/2 the cost.

More Corporate Welfare for the entertainment industry.

Fanboys need to spank the monkey in air conditioned comfort.

Why the hell they didn't do this in the first place is incomprehensible.  A nice summer day in Arlington, Texas is a day under 100 degrees heat index.

THE TAX PAYERS OR THE CROOKS IN AUSTIN?!?!?!

GOTTA LOVE VENTURE SOCIALISM AKA CROONY CAPITALISM

TAX PAYERS TAKE ALL THE RISK, CORPORATIONS REAP ALL THE REWARDS.  SUPPOSEDLY THE GOVT EVENTUALLY RECOUPS THE INVESTMENT IN TAX DOLLARS.

GEE, I WONDER WHAT THE PAYBACK PERIOD AND THE EFFECTIVE INTEREST RATE IS?!?!?

NOW IF THE WENT TO A BANK AND SAY GOT A 15 YEAR NOTE AT 6% THE BANK WOULD COLLET ABOUT $519MIL IN INTEREST PLUS RECOUP THE ORIGINAL BILLION.

HOPEFULLY THE FINE PEOPLE OF TEXAS REALIZE THIS STADIUM NEEDS TO GENERATE $100MIL A YEAR IN ADD'L TAX REVENUE.

    **********************

MAYBE STADIUM BUILDING WORKS IN SMALL TOWNS IF JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY IS GUNG HO ABOUT AND WILLING TO PUT IN THE MONEY.

BUT IN THE BIGGEST STATE IN THE UNION, THIS IS NOT THE LEGITIMATE PURPOSE OF GOVT.

Isn't it wonderful how those God-loving, Constitution-loving, country loving American Texas Republicans look out for and protect their constituents? Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Hopefully, it won't cost too much of a cut to aid to dependent children -oh, well.

Stadium building works no better in small towns.   The Braves are experts at getting smaller cities in the South to build minor league parks for them and then taxpayers get stuck with the shortfalls in revenue.   Rents and city taxes invariably fail to recoup the investments.  City councils are eager to attract ballclubs but really don't put pencil to paper to see if this is going to work or not.

Amazing how tolerant citizens can be of corporations coming in and ripping the city's taxpayers off for millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars with big promises of "jobs, economic development", etc. that never quite materialize .   The city of Pearl, Mississippi paid a guy $ 1 million in finders fees to bring the Braves AA ballpark to their city, yet Pearl has to cover  shortfalls of nearly $1 million per year because the rent/parking/taxes they collect from the park fail to cover the debt service on the bonds floated to cover it.  Pearl's credit rating has been lowered to junk status, they can no longer borrow money, and they have to cut back on city services as a result.    But there is no citizen uproar about this.  Yet let the fine folks of Pearl, Mississippi hear about a welfare family that may be collecting $ 150 more per month than they should and that represents everything that is wrong with America.
Quite honestly, the diversionary tactics used by the wealthy to get the lower middle classes on their side are just classic.   Get them to take their eyes off the ball of corporate welfare being doled out by governments and instead focus their ire on immigrants, welfare cheats, homosexuals and transsexuals.  So the gas station owner in this little town who rakes in $ 40,000 is politically and philosophically aligned with the executives who fly around in luxurious corporate jets and stay at swanky hotels.

Did t check the population, but I assume Pearl is a small town.  So this is more towards the point I was trying to make.

That said, I doubt that this is isolated to the right.  I know a big time pertains proud Union democrat that helped pushed US Cellular onto the taxpayers of Illinois

Ps, the LGBT community deserves the scorn they receive

1 in 20,000 suffer from this transsexual disorder.  So that is just a few thousand Americans.  Liberals lie and make it seem like millions!!!!

And just look at the stupidity they cause.  If little Johnny wants to become little Suzy,  the jackass liberal are making it law that we all have to play along OR ELSE

Fuck that and fuck all those that support this BS.  PLUS it's the damn left that invaded the bathrooms in the first place.   Maybe these assholes should try helping the poor instead of building ghetto and pretending they are compassionate.   It phony left wing compassion that lead the the father disappearing from many a black community

Agreed - it isn't exclusively a Republican or rightwing thing to push ballpark or other corporate boondoggles off on taxpayers.

Amazing how all of this Taxpayer Money in the long run enriches the OWNER.  Basically only the OWNER.

    What JOBS are created?

    Seasonal Hot Dog Vendor?

    Beer Vendor?

Sports are a great HUSTLE for the Fanboys and Fangirls.

As long as you know you are being hustled, go and have a good time.

In a minor league city, doubt there is any big jobs impact.  Most of those ballparks get 3000-5000 people attending games, so that isn't enough to support neighboring restaurants, bars, etc.  People going to minor league games aren't exactly high rollers anyway.   It's a fun, relaxed atmosphere at those games.  Even at Cal League games, you see the difference in smaller city fans, a lot of whom get to know each other and kibbutz about what's going on around town (who drank too much at the last party and what he did, etc).  Can only imagine what it might be like in even smaller towns that have minor league teams.  Between innings entertainment is corny but fun.  In many ways, more enjoy going to minor league games than major league games.  Owners of those teams aren't getting rich off TV contracts, corporate sponsorships, merchandise sales, etc.

FYI,  I think Roger misinterpreted my small town comment.

If Mudville has some rinky dink team that 90% of the people love and identify with, then the city of Mudville has every right to build a size appropriate stadium for that team

Paying finders fees to lure teams to occupy multi million dollar boon doggies is different and not a role of gov

In other words, Green Bay supporting the Packers fine. Tampa Bay trying to lure the White Sox not fine.

The idea of using tax dollars to finance STADIUMS should be put on the BALLOT like this Arlington deal is going to be.

The TAXPAYERS ought to have the right to vote up or down.

The White Sox Stadium deal would have been voted down in a HEARTBEAT in a Statewide referendum.

SFOD did not have enough people to cover the State!!!!

Actually the pint I was trying to make, accept the KARK would take it a step further.

I'd require super majorities to pass these corporate welfare corporate projects.

Had this been in place in the late 80's; then both Illinois and Tampa tell Reinsdorf to go pound sand.
