    Hope for the Sox

Post by rmapasad on Fri Feb 12, 2016 2:12 pm

Just read this in SB Nation .
Final Notes: The White Sox probably have a better chance of contending in the American League Central than most people realize.  Their pitching staff is solid, and potentially fairly deep if everyone is healthy.  The offense will have to rely on some degree of rebound from veterans like LaRoche and Cabrera, but the additions of Frazier and Lawrie leave the lineup with fewer gaping holes than it has had the past few years.
There is still a bit more wishing and hoping with this roster than I am generally comfortable with, but every team in the division has their own warts.  As we get set to begin a new season, there is reason to be cautiously optimistic on the south side of Chicago.>>

Author of this piece is a guy named Bob Glover, who is the HS baseball coach at Hobart, Indiana and avid Sox fan.  While Glover's not unbiased, he puts forward an intelligent view which is why Glover gets to write pieces for this publication.
Here's how I kinda see the AL Central
              Offense   Pitching   Total
    Sox       4            8             12
    Indians  4            9             13
    Royals   5            7             12
    Tigers   8            5              13
    Twins    6            4              10

IMO, if the Sox get another decent hitter (like a Desmond at SS or Fowler for OF) and can shore up either the bullpen or find another OK starter they are
right in the mix or maybe even a favorite.  They are probably in the mix as is but everything has to break the right way (i.e, LaRoche, Cabrera and Garcia
have to suck less, Latos has to be decent, and Abreu/Eaton have to keep hitting well).

Reason Tigers finished last is they waved the white flag in late July, and unloaded Cespedes and Price. They started giving tryouts to rookie pitchers and finished the year 24-35.    Tigers still had second best offense in the AL last year and that's with Cabrera missing 30 games, Cespedes gone for the last half, and V-Mart having a terrible year.  With Upton taking over for Cespedes, Maybin shoring up CF and V-Mart likely to rebound some, they will score runs.  Pitching is their bugaboo, especially since they have an all RHed rotation. Of any club that might actually need Johnny Danks, the Tigers are it !!!
