    Chris Sale to the Rangers

Post by Guest on Thu Nov 12, 2015 7:54 pm

For Joey Gallo and Lewis Brinson.

Gallo gives the team a big lefty bat and can play 3B, although long term he will be a DH/1B.

Brinson is a 5 tool player who would force Eaton to LF.

    Both extremely young

Not sure what else the Rangers would throw in, but given Sale's contract, I think the Sox would need one more player

If the Olive Garden would become an official Sox Sponsor, the Sox could go after every big time free agent out there!!

Is this a rumored trade ?  Haven't read anything about it.  Sorta doubt if Texas would feel the need for Sale as they have Cole Hamels under contract for four more years.   As such, would they would want to give up two of their top prospects, and even throw in a third ?

Both Gallo and Brinson would benefit the Sox, but Gallo comes with some concerns. As a whiff machine he puts Adam Dunn to shame.  Of all players with 100 + PA's in the majors this year, Gallo was the undisputed king of K's, striking out nearly 1/2 half of the time !  While K's are no more damaging than any other out about 2/3 of the time, high K rates usually equate to lower BA's. Gallo hit .204 in Texas and .195 in AAA.  Sox could use more power but another Dunn/LaRoche type may not be the answer.

    Gallo is 20

    cut the kid some slack

he's like the #6 prospect in all of baseball

a little too early to proclaim the kid the new Adam Dunn

BTW, Adam Dunn didn't suck when he was with the Reds.  Imagine the Sox getting Dunn in 2006 instead of 2011

another thing, Mike Schmidt batted 191 his first year up.  Players can improvement, and players young as Gallo can improve tremendously.

As for whether or not the Rangers go for it?  Who knows.  But his Hamels argument is weak.  Sale would not replace Hamels.  He would be used in addition.  In case you haven't noticed, MLB teams like 1-2 punches in the rotation.  And if they can make it a 1-2-3, even better

PS, the KARK made the rumor up

Not saying Gallo won't improve.  Just saying he has a lot of improving to do in the short term in order to be a useful major leaguer.  He won't help the Sox much in 2016 or maybe 2017, but if the goal is 2018-2019 then trading Sale now might make sense.  Really doubt that Reinsdorf/Williams will go for that idea, however.
Rangers have a 1-2 punch in Hamels and Darvish already.  Sure, there's always room for another premier starter especially one with as reasonable a contract as Sale.  But they may not want to put their chips on another LHer like Sale since their chief AL West rival (Angels) is a RHed hitting team. Especially if Sale comes at the cost of 2-3 top prospects.

CHRIS SALE BETTER BE WORTH 2-3 TOP PROSPECTS!!!!!!!!

OK, IF TEXAS DON'T WANT HIM, WHAT DO THE DODGERS AND RED SOX HAVE.  I SEE SOME OF THEIR KIDDIE HITTERS IN THE TOP 10 OF ALL MINOR LEAGUE PROSPECTS.

    REMEMBER BIG BATS!!!!!!

    ANOTHER THING ROGER,

IF TODAY'S CY YOUNG CANDIDATE IS WORTH $25MIL A YEAR, THAT'S $100MIL OVER THE NEXT 4 YEARS ON THE OPEN MARKET.

SALES IS UNDER CONTRACT FOR ROUGHLY 1/2 THAT.

SO WOULDN'T THAT MEAN HAVING SALE IS LIKE HAVING AN EXTRA $12MIL A YEAR FOR THE NEXT 4?

    *******************************************
NOW MAYBE THE ABOVE ARGUMENT DOESN'T CONVINCE TEXAS, BUT WHAT ABOUT LA OR BOSTON.

AS MUCH AS I HATE TO SAY IT, THOSE FRIGGIN' CUBS ALSO MATCH UP NICELY.

    ********************************************

ANYWAY, HOW MUCH HIGHER CAN SALE'S TRADE VALUE GET?  NORMALLY, I DON'T BELIEVE IN TREATING PLAYERS LIKE STOCKS.  BUT HIS VALUE IS SO HIGH, AND THE OFFENSE IS SO LOW, THIS WINTER LOOKS LIKE THE PERFECT TIME TO MAKE AN EXCEPTION.
