How do stupid Sox spell "relief"?

Post by MGJOHNSON on Tue Apr 21, 2015 11:28 am

    R.O.D.O.N.

Here's a young pitcher who has been stretched out to start, but the Sox are going to put him in the bullpen first so he can pitch a few innings a week.  Then when they are ready to start him (probably within a month), he'll only be able to go 3 or 4 innings.  Why not start him right away?

It's old school Mart. You should know that, you old fart. Rookie pitchers that were brought to the bigs were put in middle relief where they could face major league hitters with less pressure.

Yeah, Kevin, it's Earl Weaver old school, back in the days before arbitration, multi-million dollar contracts, and rampant free agency.  By calling Rodon up, they started his "MLB Clock" ticking.  I'm sure that they didn't draft him to be a middle reliever.  If Noesi isn't "lights out" tonight (and he seldom is), get Rodon in there early in long relief so he can get 4 or 5 innings under his belt.  That should be enough to get him acclimated.  Then when Danks's or Noesi's turn comes up again this weekend, start Rodon.  Otherwise, dumb Ventura is likely to have him face 1 or 2 batters every 3rd or 4th day.

BTW, maybe the Sox should look into the possibility of trading Danks for Aaron Hill.

Well if we are going old school Earl Weaver, might I remind everybody that Earl believed in 4 man rotations and 9 man pitching staffs.

BTW, Weaver said the best place for a rookie is long relief not middle

Finally, when the team is scoring 3 runs or less in 1/2 its games, the problem isn't the bullpen

I wouldn't mind this as a way to limit his innings in the early part of the year so they won't have to sit him in August/September.  If the plan is to only let him go "x" innings this season, then I'd rather get those innings later in the year in case the Sox are still in contention.  If there's no innings limit then I'd say get him in the rotation as early as possible

Rodon is up because Danks and Noesi just plain suck.

This has nothing to do with the Cubs.

The White Sox can not sell tickets to save their asses.

To even try and compete with the Cubs in PR and interest is one big joke.

The Cubs get good pub when people are pissing off ramps and into cups.

That does make a lot of sense to keep Rodon's innings down in the spring so he an be there later in the year.  As such, I doubt if the Sox "braintrust" actually thought about that.

The Cubs just called him up!  Did they cut him already?
