    Farewell, Mr. Cub

Post by s0ch0a on Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:17 pm

Sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks.

One of my favorite memories was going to a Sox/Cubs Boys Benefit Game at Comiskey Park.

It was clear that it was to be Ernie's last year and he made a pinch-hitting appearance during the game. After his at-bat, as he made his way to the dugout, the entire sellout crowd rose and gave him an extended standing ovation.

As a kid, it taught me that it was OK to show appreciation for one of the game's greats, even if he happened to play for a rival team.

    Godspeed, Ernie.

As a kid, it was hard not to like Banks ..he was like a big kid ..as you get older, he seemed corny, but yet you kinda still thought he was what baseball should have been ..used to bother me, and could never understand, the "uncle tom" cracks about Banks .
