Post by Guest on Tue Jan 06, 2015 10:50 am

    Hall of Famers ..

    Mine are ...

    Randy Johnson
    Pedro Martinez
    John Smoltz
    Craig Biggio
    Mike Piazza

and wouldn't be unhappy if the following got in ..
    Mike Mussina
Barry Bonds (changed my mind on the steroid guys)
    Roger Clemens
    Alan Trammell

Can't convince myself that Bagwell or Schilling are Hall worthy ..

I guess these five at the top

    Randy Johnson
    Pedro Martinez
    Mike Piazza
    Mike Mussina
Jeff Bagwell --- a near Frank Thomas clone with better defense - amazingly same exact birthdate
    Craig Biggio
    John Smoltz

    Next tier

    Tim Raines
    Curt Schilling

Bonds, McGwire, Clemens ---- not yet for me

Doesn't Bagwell have almost identical stats as Frank's?

I'm guessing it will be Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio, and John Smoltz.

Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and Pete Rose.  If baseball were smart, they'd make a welcome back to baseball tour for Pete Rose to every team in the NL against whom Pete played and start in early May when weather is starting to improve and fans are gaining interest.  That could compete with NFL draft headlines.  The following year, baseball should "forgive" Shoeless Joe (since, in all likelihood, he didn't throw any game) and with big fanfare on the south side welcome him back to baseball and allow him to be voted in the HOF.

Barry Rozner (Sports reporter for Herald) agrees with you as to Bonds for just those reasons. Said not sure yet about Clemens as doesn't know when he started. Says he researches others who are suspected but not confirmed. Other than Bonds he said he will NOT vote for users. Said he spent too much time in baseball dressing rooms with guys who busted their ass and were up for a month or a year or two and considered it s privilege and an honor.
And he wonders how many of those guys would have stayed longer if not for being beaten out by a cheater or who couldn't hit the cheaters and got sent down.
Pat Mannelly (Bear' s former long snapper in relating to not sure which movie -think Field of Dreams and remarks about the difference between . 250 and .300 . 25 hits in 500 at bats. 25 grounders with eyes in 500 at bats and you're in Yankee stadium. Mannelly mentioned the effect of steroids - a little bit more speed on the ground balls, a home run that would have been at the track! How many guys have numbers that were inflated and may be in the Hall.
He also mentioned going into baseball dressing rooms and seeing guys that were bigger and more muscular than the guys in NFL locker rooms.

Crash Davis ..Bull Durham ..."a hit a week" makes a .250 hitter a .300 hitter..."ground ball with eyes"..
