Szmardzja, or however you spell it

Post by Soxillinirob on Mon Dec 08, 2014 8:38 pm

Just saw that if the trade is made it'll be headlined by Marcus Semien and other prospects.  Semien would play short for the A's.  Depending on the other prospects, I guess this is OK.  Would like to hear who the prospects are...

I think maybe the A's are just trying to dump salary.  If we're not giving up any of our top prospects, I'm probably not too concerned.  Wait...do we have a top prospect?  Jared Mitchell?  Kris Honel?  Borchard?  I'll give 'em Borchard and Semien for Szmardjia.

    From Rotoworld.com:

"According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, a Jeff Samardzija deal between the White Sox and A's has been agreed to. No word yet on the return, but it's still assumed Marcus Semien is involved."

Rotoworld.com is reporting that the Hound might be included with Semien and another player.  It might be a back-up catcher.  Oakland's back-up Soto is a free agent.  The Sox have a bunch of potential 2nd string catchers.  In fact, that may be all that they have at that position.

It looks like the trade might be a 6 player deal with Samardjiya and someone else coming to the Sox for Semien, Hound, and 2 others.

The Sox get RHP Jeff Samardjiya and RHP Michael Ynoa.

The A's get INF Marcus Semien, RHP Chris Bassitt, C Josh Phegley, and 1B Rangel Ravelo.

Now I'll sleep at night.  At least I can stop wondering if Phegley will ever replace Flowers.

Jay, maybe the Sox will trade Flowers to the Mariners for Mike Zunio.  Then you won't have to admire him from afar.

Nice try Mart.  Best pair of vice grips won't pry Zunino away from the Mariners.  Try again in a year or two, especially if he continues to strike out so GD much.

A decade ago. They've made worse trades since then.  Adam Jones and 4 others for Erik Bedard is the worst.  History may eventually equate this one with Brock--Broglio.

Pitcher Michael Pineda for catcher/DH Jesus Montero wasn't one of the Mariners better trades, either.  Pineda may still become a stud for the Yankees.  Seattle also got pitcher Hector Noesi as a throw-in in that trade, but he didn't have much success with the Mariners.

You're right, that wasn't a good one.  Initially it started out good for the Mariners because, as I recall, Pineda got hurt in April and was out for the year.  Turned out badly for the Mariners as they had to endure a full season of waiting for slug Montero to prove he wasn't worth a pair of used shoes.
