In all seriousness, who do the Sox even have that Beane would have any interest in? The A's traded one of the best prospects in baseball to get him...who do they Sox have in comparison? Abreu? .....or Mitchell?

Probably the pitcher who the Sox got in the Peavy trade who is in the Arizona Fall League throwing the ball 99 mph.

Looks like an ideal guy for Beane to snare while the Sox have their rent a pitcher.

The rumors are that Alexei Ramirez is who Oakland is after, but undoubtedly Beane will want a good prospect or two to go along with it.

Samardzija?  Isn't he the guy who usually find a way to lose?  Well, he probably beats Fat Masterson.

Ok,so you get a pitcher x 1 yr, and you don't have anyone who can play arguably the most important defensive position on the team?   And this makes sense how??

    From Rotoworld.com:

"Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the A's could have interest in White Sox shortstop prospect Tim Anderson in a trade for Jeff Samardzija. Most of the talk in a potential deal for Samardzija has centered around Alexei Ramirez, but Slusser thinks it's the up-and-coming shortstop that the A's "like a lot." The White Sox presumably like Anderson a lot, too, as he was their first-round pick in 2013 and is ranked as the team's no. 2 prospect by MLB.com. It's unclear whether the team would make an all-in move like that, but owner Jerry Reinsdorf is believed to be set on winning and winning soon."

Hoy boy... Is Hahn simply the figurehead pulling the strings that Jerry and Kenny are orchestrating ?  Nothing the Sox have done this offseason (Duke, LaRoche) so far suggest they intend to continue the rebuilding with youth.  So the idea of swapping Anderson for Samardzija isn't as far fetched as it may have seemed a month ago.

Like I said after the Sox signed Adam LaRoche for 2 years at $25 million, the Sox are going into WIN NOW mode.  Reinsdorf is getting old, and he can't take his money with him when he dies.  He probably wants another run at a championship.

As for Tim Anderson, there's a good chance that he will be moved to the outfield eventually.  Samardzija is scheduled to become a free agent after next season, and he really hasn't put forth a winning record.  I can't see the Sox giving up much more than Anderson, maybe adding a mediocre prospect.  If the Sox give up Montas along with Anderson, they overpaid (and KW is probably calling the shots).

Ugh, the Sox finally have a young shortstop coming up through their system and there's talk of moving him?  Ouch.

Anderson is not all that good defensively.  He could improve, but don't get too enthused about him yet.

From SF Chronicle Staff Writer Susan Slusser

As I reported yesterday, the White Sox are among the teams with interest in Oakland starter Jeff Samardzija, and while many outlets today are reporting that shortstop Alexei Ramirez is the A’s target, I’m hearing that minor-league shortstop Tim Anderson is also a player Oakland likes a lot.
Anderson, a first-round pick in 2013, played 10 games at Double-A last year, so he’s not quite big-league ready, but he’s a name to keep in mind. He’s ranked the White Sox’s No. 2 overall prospect, though, so he’d be a tough get. Would the White Sox move him for one year of Samardzija? Maybe, if they had some assurance Samardzija would sign a contract extension.
Yes, the A’s need a shortstop now. But there have been indications in the organization that the team would be OK with Andy Parrino, a strong defender, playing the position if nothing else materializes. And Stephen Drew remains on the free-agent market, and he might be more in Oakland’s price range than some other options. Cliff Pennington might be a trade piece for Arizona, and Pennington was a favorite of the A’s coaching staff, more of a team leader in 2012 that most realize.
Marcus Semien, a utility infielder who played at Cal, could be looked at as potential part in any deal, too.

Samardzija and his agent are both on record saying he will be a free agent after 2015.  Why in the Hell would he not be?  This is the reason they play.  The big payday.

Maybe some of the old Fanboys will talk about the World Series at Howie's huge Soxie party, but what Fanboy World do they live in?  1972?

Well, Jeff Samardzija said that he wanted to test free agency when he was with the Cubs and supposedly hated the team's new ownership.  Having spent a couple months in Oakland, he probably realizes that there are more depressing places to play than Chicago.

Also, and you'll love this one, Bobby, he grew up a White Sox fan in NW Indiana.  So, he just may be willing to sign a multi-year deal for the "privilege" of playing for the White Sox.  Ask any fanboy, and they'll tell you all about such things as the "home town discount" and players putting the "love of the game" ahead of mere money.

More seriously, Samardzija just completed his best year as a starting pitcher.  He still didn't roll up the wins, but his ERA was excellent.  Perhaps he's considering cashing in on that success now.

Finally, a pitcher is always one pitch away from the surgeon's knife.  With so many pitchers going down to injury last season, he may not want to take the risk of going through another season without a long term deal.

It is being proven time and time again that when these guys can become free agents, they do it.  I read here this Spring that Max Scherzer was an asshole because he did not take the Tigers deal.  Too Bad.  That is his right.  Nonsense about how the Tigers were trying to win the Wold Series.
Well, Boras just waits until the market is established by Lester.  Then Scherzer will cash in.
You are right, Marty.  This home town discount stuff is crap.
Samardzija has already made millions.  His signing bonus was $10,000,000.  He will not starve if his arm blows out this season.  Going for that pot of gold is what these guys do.  Who can blame them?  Who would not do it if they were in their shoes?

Excuse me Robert, but what was Scherzer offered?

    Wasn't it like $180mil?

That's not an asshole.  That one ballsy MoFo that could be considered borderline insane.

Trading Alexi Ramirez only makes sense if the Sox are rebuilding and Ramirez can land a blue chip hitter.

Do the Sox have any hitting prospects????

Sox can always resign Beckham to play SS for a year. I bet an even million would do it
