Post by Nomads44 on Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:32 am

2013 BB America Top Ten Prospects

    1 - OF Courtney Hawkins (drafted #1 in 2012)
    2 - OF Trayce Thompson (rated #4 in 2012, #9 in 2011, #6 in 2010)
3 - INF Carlos Sanchez (not rated in 2012 - great recent AFL season)
4 - RHP Erik Johnson (not rated in 2012)
    5 - OF Keenyn Walker (rated #6 in 2012 - 2011 supplemental #1)
6 - LHP Scott Snodgress (not rated in 2012)
7 - RHP Andre Rienzo (not rated in 2012; potentially first Brazilian)
    8 - DH/1B Keon Barnum (2012 supplemental #1)
    9 - OF Jared Mitchell (not rated in 2012, rated #4 in 2011, #1 in 2010)
10- RHP Chris Beck (drafted second round 2012)

These were rated in 2012 but have fallen out of top 10 or been traded

1 - RHP Addison Reed (no longer a rookie)
    2 - RHP Nestor Molina
    3 - RHP Simon Castro
    5 - RHP Jacob Petricka (rated #7 in 2011)
    7 - RHP Jhan Marinez
    8 - SS Tyler Saladino
    9 - SS Juan Silverio
10- INF Oswaldo Martinez (now with Dodgers)

These were rated in 2011 but have fallen out of top 10 or been traded
1 - LHP Chris Sale (no longer a rookie)
    2 - 3B Brent Morel (no longer a rookie)
3 - OF Dayan Viciedo (no longer a rookie)
5 - 2B/SS Eduardo Escobar (traded to Twins)
6 - RHP Gregori Infante (waived)
    8 - OF Brandon Short
    10- RHP Anthony Carter

Because of the number from last year that have fallen below the new top ten, I hope this is reason for promise and optimism.

Jared Mitchell and Jordan Danks perhaps biggest current disapppointments. I think without Mitchell's injury, we would have already expected him to be battling for a spot. And Danks to already be at worst a very solid #4 OF at all three positions.

This is what BBA expects the club to look like five years out in 2017.
(?? = I am expecting a trade or another option to appear by 2017).

    C Tyler Flowers (??)
1B Andy Wilkins (pretty good power numbers)
    2B Gordon Beckham (??)
    3B Carlos Sanchez
    SS Alexi Ramirez (??)
    LF Courtney Hawkins
    CF Trayce Thompson
    RF Alex Rios (Jared Mitchell?)
    DH Dayan Viciedo

    SP1 Chris Sale
    SP2 John Danks (??)
    SP3 Jake Peavy (??)
    SP4 Gavin Floyd (??)
    SP5 Jose Quintana (??)
    CL Addison Reed

Considering not a single one of the top ten are being counted on this year (though maybe Carlos Sanchez might be pushed into 3B if no one else is signed and Morel not healthy), looks like if they go the Win Now route with what is on the roster is acceptable if they cannot swing any trades of their current veterans for prospects.

Disappointed Phegley did not break into the top ten, nor even push Flowers out of the 2017 lineup. If Konerko, Rios, Dunn, Danks, Floyd, Peavy, and even Beckham or Ramirez, end up being traded, I hope it is with 2014 or 2015 in mind.
