Pierz has never been a good RBI man. I've commented on this in the past, and people have said he just never has many guys on base in front of him. Well, I just don't buy that.

I've never been a fan of AJ in the batter's box. For somebody who supposedly studies pitchers and placement of pitches as much as he does, he might be the most impatient hitter on the squad. He seems to hack away at the first pitch more than anybody. This year's performance notwithstanding, I've always considered AJ's hitting just a cut above Ron Karkovice.

AJ is a complete sucker for the low inside curve when he has two strikes. I realize many hitters struggle with this pitch, but in AJ's case, it can almost hit him, and he'll still be swinging.

Next game, watch how the league approaches AJ and Viciedo when either has two strikes. AJ will get a low inside curve. Viciedo will get a slightly outside fastball. That's the book on these two guys, and I'm sure they know it, but they can't stop themselves.

Somehow, in the 9th, Viciedo actually did manage to lay off a few perfectly placed outside pitches by Soriano. I'm hoping the batting coach said something, and he actually listened after striking out on that same pitch three times in the game already. We'll see.
