It could be an exciting race for last place this year. I say, white flag it, get rid of whatever aging veterans you can, and go for the draft pick.

In a weak division like this, the Sox could still hang around within 2-4 games of first for awhile, particularly if Quentin, Ramirez and Floyd start to rebound. However, if they have a crap June like 2007 the writing might be on the wall enough for them to start the mid-summer firesale. Don't know how much the vets would bring back in trade though. Thome wouldn't fetch much. Other clubs wouldn't want any part of Konerko's salary (running thru 2010). Dye might snag a decent prospect, but not a blue-chipper.
Contending clubs usually are looking for starting pitching in these July deals and that the Sox don't have to spare unless they'd consider peddling Buehrle. Mark could bring back some returns, but would the Sox really want to do that ?

Jenks might bring someone of substance. Problem is, I don't trust anyone else in that pen to close a game.
